Notes: | David and Josh are now on speaking terms after the events in New Mutants #8. Rahne Sinclair, who is now powerless, is one of the original New Mutants. Luna DePaula first appeared in New Mutants Volume Two #7. Surge first appeared in New Mutants Volume Two #8; she went to the Institute looking for help, but Julian refused to let her in. At the end of that issue, Surge lost control of her powers and accidentally electrocuted Luna. |

Story: | David manages to calm Josh down after Julian uses his telekinesis to snatch Josh's chair out from under him. David and the gang head to the Grind Stone, where they learn that Luna is in the hospital. The gang returns to the Institute to tell Dani and Xi'an, who are getting reacquainted with Rahne, of the accident. Josh reveals that Surge accidentially did it, and suggests that he go with Dani and Xi'an when they talk to her. Dani refuses to allow Josh to tag along, so he and David return to their rooms. Josh is complaining of not being able to go along when Rahne arrives, suggesting the three of them go looking for Surge. Along with Sofia and Laurie the gang sneaks out of the Institute and meet a homeless man, who reveals that Surge is probably trying to buy some pills from a man named Click. Believing the pills are what's causing Surge to lose control of her powers, the mutants set out to stop her. When David begins speaking Japanese, Surge's native language, they realize they are close. When the gang finds Surge, Sofia uses her powers to knock the pills out of her hands, not realizing that Surge needs the pills to control her powers, which once again go out of control. |
